High-tech waterproofing for an industrial tunnel: the Savigliano construction site combines efficiency and innovation

2'50"

An infrastructure serving internal logistics, designed to improve the flow and safety of a company operating in the pet food sector. This is the context of the new industrial tunnel, part of a new company expansion completed in Savigliano (Cuneo – North West part of Italy), where waterproofing requirements included high-performances, reliability, and quick-to-install solutions.

The contractor, took care of the project and choose a complete system supplied by Volteco, combining the Amphibia 3000 Grip waterproofing membrane with the WT Construction profile, a solution designed for sealing construction joints. The package guaranteed protection for the entire underground structure, characterized by complex conditions (water table depth -1.7 m from ground level, excavation level -4.45 m) and the need for long-term durability.

Initially, the temporary vertical structures were leveled with shotcrete, followed by the installation of the Amphibia 3000 Grip waterproofing system on the horizontal surface and the pouring of the foundation slab, all in one step. The vertical walls were then waterproofed, again using the Amphibia 3000 Grip system, integrated with the WT Construction hydro-expansive profile, laid in double rows depending on the wall thickness, which exceeds 50 cm.

Given the proximity to existing buildings, and to ensure the stability of the temporary structures, two crowning beams were installed, held in place by a series of struts transverse to the direction of the tunnel to counteract ground pressure.

The choice of materials has been crucial. Amphibia 3000 Grip stands out for its multi-layered properties: active, self-sealing, and self-repairing. This makes it one of the most advanced solutions for industrial and residential contexts, where operational continuity and resistance to external agents are top priorities.

But what makes this project even more representative of the evolution of the sector is what lies upstream from the construction site: Volteco’s production process, now highly digitalized. The membrane used in Savigliano is manufactured in a facility where innovative predictive artificial intelligence technology has been introduced since 2022.

These systems monitor production variables in real time and automatically adjust critical parameters to ensure uniformity and precision. The result is consistent quality, with a drastic reduction in waste and materials that respond with ever-increasing performance. This evolution also brings concrete benefits in the field.

Alongside the quality of its materials, Volteco continues to invest in digital services to support professionals. BIM drawings and sketches are available, designed to facilitate the design phase and reduce the margin for error in complex projects. Added to this is the immersive “Underground Waterproofing Experience,” an interactive training tool that allows designers, businesses, and professionals to explore application solutions in a 3D virtual environment.

The Savigliano construction site thus becomes the symbol of an integrated approach, where high-performance materials, industrial innovation, and digital tools come together to offer concrete and immediate answers to the real needs of the construction sector.
