The redevelopment project of the Les Airelles Venice, Ex-Hotel Bauer complex in Venice and the management of the works were handled by the Venice Plan Engineering design studio of Venice and the works were carried out by the Setten Genesio spa company of Oderzo (Treviso-Italy).
Volteco technologies have been used to resolve problems related to the waterproofing of structures, in particular the construction of a containment tank aimed to protect the underground structures of the building from the phenomenon of fluctating high tide.
The context of the historic center of Venice is in fact subject to the phenomenon of high tide, a situation that can cause serious damage to the structures involved, as unfortunately history has demonstrated, even recently: in 2019 in fact in just one week, between the 12th and the 17th November, the tide exceeded the level of 140 cm four times. In the renovation project of the building, which will become, once the works are completed, an important hotel accommodation facility, the construction of a containment tank became a must have solution for grant an usable and safe environment to this prestigious historical location.
The first phase of the works involved the demolition of the existing plaster, exposing the original wall .
Subsequently we moved on to protecting the walls with the application of the fibre-reinforced plaster, with waterproof function, Bi Mortar Plaster Seal.
To improve resistance to water pressure and given the presence of salts, the special Revomat mesh, an alcanli- resistant glass fiber mesh, was inserted into the thickness of the plaster, connected to the masonry with the appropriate galvanized carbon steel connectors.
Once the plaster cured, in order to give the waterproof system a certain level of flexibility, the waterproof coating Plastivo 250 was applied, a modified polymer, two-component, highly flexible, ideal for surfaces subjected to negative hydrostatic pressure.
On the horizontal plane, to achieve continuity of the waterproofing, the Amphibia 3000 Grip waterproof, multi-layered, hydro-reactive, self-repairing, self-sealing and self-bonding to concrete was applied under the slab. Since the slab is bound by the vertical connectors, the joint along the perimeter was sealed by installing the WT Expansion gasket, characterized by a high resistance to hydraulic load, ideal for sealing expansion and contraction joints, in combination with the WT Panel, modular hydro-expansive waterstop panel, capable of adhering to the structure by pressure, waterproofing it. All sealed with Akti-vo 201, hydro-expansive mastic ideal for working in underground rooms even with pressurized water.
